We enjoyed our stay in Porongurup chalets. Beautiful place that was very homey and full of charm. The chalet is clean, well equipped and thoughtfully furnished and decorated. We had everything we needed for our family of 5.The place is in such a great location in the middle of Porongurup park. Lots of walking trails around, wineries, close to Albany and Stirling ranges. The owners Trish and Jason are great people, communication was very friendly and fast.We would definitely stay again.

Beautiful, clean, comfortable wooden chalets surrounded by bushland. It's nice to wake up with window views full of greenery sprinkled with either rain or sunlight. Friendly management. Minutes to Porongurup National Park and trails to Nancy's Peak or Devil's Slide. Great place!

Porongurup Sensation
Jason & Trish were great hosts and having only recently purchased the property have se about breathing new life into the chalets, which were in need of a spruce up. Great location to relax and unwind with the Porongurup national park at your back door. Great location to explore the surrounding area from Denmark to Albany, Mt Barker and beyond. Highly recommended!

WOW! What a lovely place to call home for a few days :) Right from the start, Trish and her team were so great to deal with! Trish assisted me with booking (even scoring the popular pink Grevillia chalet!) and ensured I had all the info ready for check-in.Upon arriving we were thrilled to see the accommodation was even better than pictured online. All the small touches made our chalet feel like home. Beds and doonas were SO comfortable! Kitchen had everything you needed, and don't worry about keeping warm - the heating system and electric blankets kept us toasty warm!We were down to climb Bluff Knoll and the Porongurup Chalets were only a short 40min drive away - making live easier than staying down in Albany or Denmark. So close to wineries also which was great! 10/10 for cosy accommodation - perfect for a weekend away with the girls!!

Information

  • As the Chalets are built on a traditional Swiss design, the interior stairs are quite steep.  This may be difficult for people with mobility and balance concerns.

  • We are in the Australian Bush.  As such, there will be local animals.  None are particularly dangerous, however care should always be taken with wild animals as their behaviour can be unpredictable - especially if they feel threatened.

  • Porongurup Chalets are 22km outside of Mount Barker and 40km from Albany.  Our local shop closes at before dark and there are very few places to buy food once evening arrives.  Please ensure that you buy food and drinks before you arrive.

  • Our Chalets are tidy and clean. Please be aware that the Chalets are not a 5-Star Hotel. We are deep in the Australian Bush.  Whilst we do have all the mod cons like electricity, heating and hot water at mains pressure, we don't have room service, a shop, a restaurant, valet parking or a swimming pool.

  • Native Bush can be dangerous due to fallen branches, holes, loose rocks and unlevel ground.  It is important that you stick to the existing paths and trails so that you do not hurt yourself nor damage the flora and fauna.

Rules

Children

This is a place of quiet relaxation and contemplation.  It isn't a school holiday camp.  Our guests come here to get away from the noise and hustle of their day-to-day lives.

We've recently had some bad experiences with parents who haven't appropriately supervised their kids. This has resulted in costly property damage, damaged trees, bushes and garden beds and has disturbed our other guests due to the noise.

Please ensure that your children are appropriately supervised at all times. We are very conscious of ensuring all of our guests have a wonderful stay.

Animals

As we are in the Porongurup Range National Park, animals are not allowed under any circumstances.  Guide Dogs and cute little monkeys excepted.

WiFi

Unfortunately, fast internet access isn't a feature of the Australian Bush, so if you were hoping to download some movies or play Call of Duty, you're going to be disappointed. We can certainly provide enough Wifi to let you check your email but we think of the lack of speed as a feature. Disconnecting is healthy!

If you're a Telstra customer, you won't have any issues with phone calls or data - but if you're with any other provider, think of your stay here as a digital disconnect.

Quiet time

The Chalets are in an Australian Bush Setting.  It is peaceful and serene.  Because most of our Guests want to enjoy nature, we have a policy of quiet time between 9pm and 7am.

No Smoking

There is no smoking anywhere on the Porongurup Chalets site.

COVID-19

We abide by the Health Recommendations and Requirements of the Shire of Plantagenet, the WA State Government and the Australian Federal Government as well as the WHO and CDC.  As such, this means if there is a requirement for check-ins, vaccinations or masks to be worn, we expect guests to abide by the requirements for the safety of other guests and staff.

All Staff at the Chalets are fully vaccinated and we have implemented Covid-enhanced cleaning.

Recycling

Because we respect the environment and we do not have a local waste collection service, we ask that you are mindful of any rubbish or waste you generate.  We have recycling bins and ask that you separate your rubbish from items that can be recycled.  Instructions are provided in the kitchen of each Chalet.

Water Usage

We understand that a hot shower is one of life's pleasures. However, we do live in an environment where water is scarce.  Please be conscious of your water usage.

Electricity

As an environmentally-conscious provider, we monitor electricity usage closely.  Please ensure that when you are not in your Chalet, you switch off as many lights and appliances as possible.

Heating

All Gas onsite is provided from bottles.  These have a limited capacity.  To ensure you do not run out, please remain conscious of your heating usage and only use the heating when necessary.

Cooling

In Summer, it can get hot. In defiance of the sternly-worded letters we have written, this remains outside of our control.  To ensure your Chalet remains comfortable, please open the windows to allow cooler air to flow through.  Even though a hot day can be intolerable, most evenings get very cool.

Groundskeeping

Nature isn't tidy. Trees drop leaves and branches. Weeds pop up wherever they can take hold. Rain results in mud and erosion. So, to keep things presentable and safe, we have to do groundskeeping on a regular basis. Unfortunately, this can be noisy as it involves leaf blowers, tractors, whipper-snippers and other loud, angry machines. We are very conscious of keeping things quiet, serene and peaceful, but these jobs have to be done.

Where possible, we will complete these tasks on Weekdays between 9am and 4pm. This will keep the weekends nice & relaxing for all of us!

Security

All chalets have electronic door locks and motion-activated external lighting.  The entire property is fenced and gated and there are security cameras placed in public areas to ensure the safety of our guests.
